We would like to introduce you to one of our graduates of The Coach Certificate and Mentorship Program! With over a hundred graduates since 2019, educators taking The Coach come into the program with different backgrounds, experiences and goals. Because the program is designed to be flexible and practical in nature, each graduate is able to customize their learning experience for exactly their needs – with the support of a mentor and the global community the whole way!
The Coach follows the Thrive Model for Sustainable Instructional Coaching, a proven framework for success in developing your coaching practice – for you as an individual coach and for your coaching program in your school. These educators have graciously given us permission to post some of their learning and reflections from the private coursework they are undertaking during this program.
Meet Tina
Tina came to The Coach as a classroom teacher who wanted to grow professionally. She was working in a school with a formal coaching program and wanted to better understand coaching and the work of coaches, and she was curious about potentially moving into a coaching role in the future.
Tina says…
To me, collaborating with other teachers really motivates me, because you get different perspectives. It opens up my thinking, sometimes you get stuck in one way of doing things. I feel like I have a lot of tools, I can now use in coaching, and that’s where I can maximize those tools.

Going through The Coach has taught me the backbone of coaching. I’ve been coached, and I’ve thought it’s “just having conversations”, I didn’t know how much preparing goes into that, until I went through your course. This journey that I’m on right now, with you, with the cohort that I’m in, it’s the glue that brings everything together for me. The course is putting it all together. It helps you reflect, it’s not starting from scratch, but it gives a structure, without too much structure, you can personalize it. You can have your niche in coaching.
Watch Tina’s Learning Journey Video Reflection
The Learning Journey Video Reflection is a chance for you to reflect on everything you’ve learned and/or discovered throughout this Certificate Program. You will create an 8-10 min video sharing on the goal that you set, documenting the process of working towards your goal, reflecting on your achievement and sharing the process/outcome with our learning community. The most important part of your personal project is that it’s relevant to you, and you can demonstrate, through documentation and video, the impact your work has had on your school.
Now that she’s graduated, Tina says
I gained confidence as a coach after completing one coaching cycle and a mini one. I was able to use the artifacts I created in The Coach. I have a true understanding of what a coaching role entails. Also understanding the different layers of coaching, such as marketing yourself, being intentional when asking teachers to participate in a coaching cycle.
Before your course, I thought coaches were an expert in the subject area, but then I learned that coach is a support system that you have, you should use it. As teachers we should use it, even though coaching may look different in different schools.

Learn More About Tina’s Experience in The Coach
Tina was recently featured on the #coachbetter podcast in a Case Study episode.
These case study episodes are designed to share the story of a coach, and the development of their coaching program and practice in their unique setting. At the time of recording, Tina had just graduated from The Coach. In this episode we talk about what attracted her to coaching, what coaching looks like in her school setting, what she’s thinking about as she’s considering the move from classroom to coach, what teachers need to know to opt-in to coaching, and her advice for teachers wanting to move into a coaching role. If you’re curious about what classroom teachers can learn in The Coach, and why they might consider moving into a coaching role, this episode is for you!
