We want to give you a peek inside our Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program. Coaches taking part in this academic-year-long journey have graciously given us permission to post some of their learning and reflections from the private coursework they are undertaking during this program. Where possible, we have shared the course and the action task to give context for the guest post.

Throughout the coaching program, I have set significant goals for myself, including establishing systematic and consistent coaching practices, sharing visions with my colleagues and administration, and enhancing documentation and communication within my role.

I’ve utilized a series of milestones to support my progress, such as creating a shared vision that encompassed administrative efforts and each department’s contributions. I’ve also curated a coaching cycle specific to my school’s context and designed coaching meeting templates to facilitate structured and productive discussions.

My largest area of growth has been in documentation and communication with administration, demonstrating an increased focus on transparency and effective knowledge sharing. However, there’s still room for me to grow in becoming more systematic and in fostering teachers’ capacity with administrative support.

One of the key challenges I’ve encountered has been the busy schedules of the administrative team, which at times has made it difficult to ensure they are fully aware of the coaches’ activities and goals. To address this, I have learned the importance of regular communication with the administration, sharing my accomplishments, expectations, and visions on a consistent basis.

The coaching program has provided me with theoretical support and motivation, spurring me to create a robust coaching cycle. This has had a profound impact on my coaching practice within my school setting. I am now more inclined to implement full coaching cycle practices, recognizing their powerful potential.

Moving forward, my professional learning journey will involve stepping out of my comfort zone and seeking more leadership experiences. I aim to broaden my knowledge base by exploring areas I’m less familiar with. This continuous learning and growth mindset will ensure I remain an effective, influential, and innovative coach in my school setting.
