We want to give you a peek inside our Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program. Coaches taking part in this academic-year-long journey have graciously given us permission to post some of their learning and reflections from the private coursework they are undertaking during this program. Where possible, we have shared the course and the action task to give context for the guest post.
The Topic: Phase 2: Implement Consistently
The Task: Share your artifact and a written reflection on your learning during this phase.
Share an artifact from your coaching program that you will refine during this stage of the program to achieve greater consistency. Why is this most important to you right now?
An artifact we as a coaching team decided to refine this year was our Microsoft form to track how we are spending our time. At the end of last year, we realized the data we collected was not something use to refine strategies the next school year.
What’s in place?
THIS IS THE FORM we used last year. We filled out the form each day, not each instance of coaching.
What’s not working? Where is there room to grow?
When we reflected at the end of last year, we realized the data we were collecting was not extremely helpful. As a coaching team we decided to refine our data collection form to get a more granular view of our coaching instances. Thank you to Kim for helping us answer questions such as the ones below to figure out what data we wanted to collect.
How do you think you got to where you are now?
We realized the graphs produced by our data collection were great to share with stakeholders. The data showed how and where we were spending our time, but the data didn’t help us determine the next steps to increase a culture of coaching. We decided we needed to refine our Microsoft Form because we wanted to be very intentional, and we were missing critical data to help us achieve this mindset shift.
How can you make a positive impact on your coaching program?
We can debrief data collected and refine strategies based on data. For example, now that we are collecting information for each coaching instance, we can target grades and/or buildings not utilizing coaching. We can look at our number of coaching conversations vs. coaching cycles and develop a plan to share the impact on student achievement after true coaching cycles.
