When you join The Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program, you not only get a mentor for the academic year, but you also join a cohort of like-minded colleagues who are also working on improving their instructional coaching practice just like you. In each cohort, our participants are all located around the world, so you get to build your Personal Learning Network, while you learn about coaching practices in schools from all over the globe. Because those conversations happen in our private learning management system and messaging channels, we want to give you the opportunity to meet the coaches who are learning with us this academic year for the Coach Cohort 9.

Instructional Coach

My coaching journey started 5 years ago when our district adopted a coaching program.  I invited the coaches in right away, and have worked with them up until I entered my new role as a coach!  I am looking forward to this academic year learning from as many people as possible and how to apply their learning experience to make it work for me.  Learning how to best make myself visible, approachable, and helpful to all grade levels in my district.  All while figuring out my goals, pathways, and areas of growth. Really looking forward to connecting with so many different educators across the world!

My coaching journey began with a strong desire to work alongside and support colleagues after experiencing positive and helpful coaching conversations as a specialist educator with previous leadership teams. I am really looking forward to setting up my mission as a coach, learning how to set up systems for clarity and continuing to be a part of the international coaching community. Having a clear coaching cycle with additional tools and strategies will really support this goal and something I really look forward to learning about and applying.

Although I donโ€™t have coaching experience yet, I am hopeful that I can start taking my first steps in this area soon, as the administrators at my school have shown interest and openness to the idea of starting a coaching program. My main goal during this program is to build the necessary skills to develop my coaching practice. I also aim to acquire the tools and knowledge needed to participate in implementing coaching practices at my school, so I can contribute to fostering a positive attitude toward this process and incorporate it as part of the schoolโ€™s growth.

I have gained extensive experience in middle leadership roles, including team leader positions, chairing school-wide committees, and facilitating divisional professional development. I work closely with Art, Preschool, and Kindergarten teams, co-teaching weekly and regularly meeting with each group. In these interactions, I bring a coaching mindset, focusing on sharing pedagogy, reflecting on the effectiveness of our practices, and fostering deeper professional relationships. As I continue to guide my colleagues in refining their approaches, I am eager to advance my coaching skills.

Instructional Coach

My coaching journey has been driven by a deep commitment to creating spaces where teachers feel seen, supported, and inspired to bring their full selves to their work. My goals for the program are to deepen my understanding of how to support teachers in sustaining their passion and curiosity, even amid the many challenges we face in education today. Iโ€™m also considering how to build a connection-based, inquiry-driven approach to coaching, ensuring that our program is solid and sustainable as it grows over the coming years.

Grade 8 Math teacher and Team Lead

I have been inspired from an early point in my career by the power of coaching on teachers, curriculum, learning experiences for students, and vertical alignment. I decided to join The Coach to gain better insight into coaching, connect with others worldwide, and build my capacity as a team lead. My goal is to become a math coach. This academic year, I am looking forward to developing a stronger curriculum and implementing more UDL in our units, as I am teaching two new courses. I am excited to bring the work I am learning here into my own practice.

Michael Crachiolo

Shanghai, China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ

High School English and Global Politics

While I have never been a coach in any official capacity, I find myself coaching my peers regularly; additionally, I did a lot of explicit coaching with teachers at my previous school in Guangzhou, China as head of English there, as part of my job was to do observations and use data from observations in conversation with teachers to help them improve their practice, in addition to coordinating department curriculum (vertical, horizontal alignment, and alignment to Common Core standards). My goals for taking this program really are about attaching what I already know and what I already do to well-established coaching models and theories in order to improve and grow.

Alison Travis Roberts

Shanghai, China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ

High School English teacher and Language Specialist

My passion has always been in the classroom, but throughout my teaching career I have done a fair amount of teacher training and support. One of my greater concerns when I work with other teachers is my lack of language to help them process. I always have ideas or thoughts on what to improve, yet I want it to be more of a conversation. I often work with a tech coach who uses the language of the coaching cycle and it makes logical sense to me. I want to learn how to implement this cycle and support teachers’ discoveries and explorations to better support students in the classroom.

I’m just beginning my journey into coaching, driven by a strong desire to support fellow educators. I love sharing ideas, collaborating with my colleagues, and creating opportunities for staff development. Now that I have 18 years of experience, I’m eager to give back and become a mentor myself. While I’m confident in my teaching abilities, I’m excited to further enhance my skills to better support my colleagues.

Our coaching team wanted to join The Coach after needing clarity on our role and creating an environment where staff knows our role and how we can support them. This year I look forward to establishing a coaching culture in all of our buildings and really defining what our role is and isn’t. A goal I have for myself is to create more structure and clarity with my specific role. I can support others by offering support with any literacy needs!

My journey in coaching began 3 years ago, as I transitioned from a reading specialist into literacy coach.  I am here in The Coach course now, to grow as a professional in all capacities and receive more formalized training in instructional coaching.  I am most looking forward to learning from our mentors and cohort together, as we move through this academic year.  I canโ€™t wait to put my new knowledge and skills into practice!

Kerri Urzillo

K-5 Instructional Math Coach

With coaching still being so new to our district, our team met with coaches from surrounding districts to discuss what has made their program so successful. One of the recommendations was taking this program as a team. After looking into it, we all decided this was the next step we needed to take! Over this next year, there are so many things I am looking forward too – especially clarifying our roles for ourselves as well as admin and staff and learning tools and strategies to strengthen my coaching skills.

My team and I were recommended this course from a surrounding district who found it very beneficial. Now that we have had a few years to navigate this “newer” role in the district, we are looking to clarify our roles, build our skill sets working with adults, and strengthen our impact. We are eager to learn more and applying our learning to our every day coaching interactions! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have previously taken courses in Adaptive Schools and Cognitive Coaching, which I have used extensively in previous roles and in my current role, too. I am hoping the course will help me to grown in my ability to facilitate within my team, across vertical groups, with families, and overall as a leader in the school. I hope to continue to add to my tool belt and find ways to apply my learning to my role.

I decided to join the Coach so that I can be the best learning coach that I can be to support teachers and students. Iโ€™m excited to collaborate with the coaches, learn practical strategies for effectively using the coaching cycle, and continue to grow as an instructional coach. Shelby Sieybert

My job alikes and I are all joining The Coach to learn and grow together as we try to better support our staff at our schools. I am hoping the insights and strategies we learn will not only make us better at our jobs, but empower our whole staff to be the best they can be, and to be able to see how amazing they are. To be flexible and gracious with myself and others as I try so many new things all in one year and hopefully use all my experiences to be able to better empathize with and empower those who feel overwhelmed – both staff and students.

Head of Department in High School Social Studies,

While I am not currently a coach, I am beginning to support teachers in their practices through both of my teacher leader positions (and I am also supporting colleagues with working with other teachers in this capacity as well). I joined The Coach because I do hope to move into a coaching role, and I am beginning to have a role that includes some components of coaching this year, so it is a very opportune time for me. I am most looking forward to helping empower teachers to integrate new practices into their classrooms, and to being a thought partner and problem solver in this process.
