We want to give you a peek inside our Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program. Coaches taking part in this academic-year-long journey have graciously given us permission to post some of their learning and reflections from the private coursework they are undertaking during this program. Where possible, we have shared the course and the action task to give context for the guest post.
The Coach Learning Journey Video Reflection
The Learning Journey Video Reflection is a chance for you to reflect on everything you’ve learned and/or discovered throughout this Certificate Program. You will create an 8-10 min video sharing on the goal that you set, documenting the process of working towards your goal, reflecting on your achievement and sharing the process/outcome with our learning community. The most important part of your personal project is that it’s relevant to you, and you can demonstrate, through documentation and video, the impact your work has had on your school.

What goals did you set for yourself at the beginning of the program?
When I started this course I felt very scattered and stressed because I couldn’t keep up with the requests from teachers. Creating a long term structure to build capacity for people was my goal to help streamline my efforts in an intentional way.
How did each milestone support you in reaching your goal?
Each of the milestones of clarity, implement consistently, and growing community played a vital role in my efforts to create a long-term structure for building capacity for people. Here’s how each milestone helped me reach my goal:
Clarity: Creating an artifact to clarify my role helped me establish clear expectations and boundaries for myself and the teachers I work with. It also helped me articulate the goals and objectives of my role as a coach, making it easier for me to prioritize my tasks and stay focused on what mattered most.
Implement Consistently: Using a data tracker to reflect on the type of coaching I was spending by time on helped me maintain consistency in my approach to coaching. By tracking my activities and outcomes, I was able to identify patterns and adjust my coaching strategies accordingly.
Growing Community: Developing a year-long professional development plan tied together by themes will help me build a community of learners. By organizing my coaching around common themes, I am able to create opportunities for teachers to collaborate and share their experiences with one another.
What has been your biggest area of growth in the program?
By focusing on these three milestones, I was able to create a structured and sustainable approach to coaching that supports the growth and development of teachers over the long term. My primary area of development is becoming proficient at switching between consulting, collaborating, and coaching stances in response to the needs and indicators of the teachers.
Where do you still have room to grow?
Creating a culture of innovation and student led practices.
What’s YOUR level of coaching mastery?
