We want to give you a peek inside our Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program. Coaches taking part in this academic-year-long journey have graciously given us permission to post some of their learning and reflections from the private coursework they are undertaking during this program. Where possible, we have shared the course and the action task to give context for the guest post.

The Topic: Evaluating Your Coaching Program

The Task: Share an artifact from your coaching program that demonstrates what phase of implementation you are in (Clarify, Consistency, Community)

I am in the Consistency phase of implementation. The artifacts below show how I addressed the vision and role elements of Clarity.

What is this artifact?

Vision

THIS ARTIFACT is a card I leave in teachers’ classrooms after working with them or after stopping in their classroom for 5 – 10 minutes to do a learning walk. The front of my card has my vision and the back of the card has a QR code to my Bookings link. I use the lines on the back to write the teacher a little note.

Role

The artifact that helped me clarify my role in my district is THIS GRAPHIC that I made and distributed to all buildings through the building-level Canvas SuperUsers. We have many technology roles in the district and I made this graphic in an attempt to clarify responsibilities. This has really decreased the number of troubleshooting tech questions I receive.

Why does it demonstrate this stage of your coaching program?

I feel confident that my vision and role are clear with the use of these artifacts. During a meeting with administration, I reminded them quickly of the roles and responsibilities graphic to make sure we are all on the same page. When creating the graphic I asked all members for input or changes before emailing it to the teachers. This made the approach collaborative and more accepted. This demonstrates we are at the Consistency stage of our coaching program because Clarity has been a focus for a few years by the coaches before me.

Will this be an artifact you would like to refine during the course of the program?

I’m always open to refining after reflecting on its effectiveness. I think my vision might change after this course and with more experience.
