We want to give you a peek inside our Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program. Coaches taking part in this academic-year-long journey have graciously given us permission to post some of their learning and reflections from the private coursework they are undertaking during this program. Where possible, we have shared the course and the action task to give context for the guest post.

The Coach Learning Journey Video Reflection

The Learning Journey Video Reflection is a chance for you to reflect on everything you’ve learned and/or discovered throughout this Certificate Program.  You will create an 8-10 min video sharing on the goal that you set, documenting the process of working towards your goal, reflecting on your achievement and sharing the process/outcome with our learning community. The most important part of your personal project is that it’s relevant to you, and you can demonstrate, through documentation and video, the impact your work has had on your school.

My biggest area for growth was my self-confidence in being a coach and that I can grow into this role. I was inspired by my squad team and Maggie’s support, although this learning journey was challenging, I feel like I have grown as a person and a coach, and it supported me in my role as an Head of department.

What goals did you set for yourself at the beginning of the program?

At the beginning of the program I hoped to gain confidence again in coaching by developing a set of coaching questions, improving my paraphrasing and intentional listening, going back to instructional coaching cycles and developing confidence as a coach.

How did each milestone support you in reaching your goal?

Although my first milestone (0) was reflecting several different coaching elements, they came together in the end. The course is structured in such a way that it brings those different coaching elements together into a well-designed programme with room for reflection, growth and improvement.

What has been your biggest area of growth in the program?

My biggest area for growth was my self-confidence in being a coach and that I can grow into this role. I was inspired by my squad team and Maggie’s support, although this learning journey was challenging, I feel like I have grown as a person and a coach, and it supported me in my role as an Head of department.

Where do you still have room to grow?

I have a lot of room to grow, in practicing the coaching skills, being more aware of the different states of mind, learning to use these questions in a more natural way…I think you never stop learning as a coach.

What surprises and/or challenges have you had along the way?

By following this course, It allowed me to bring in great resources and share my experience within the coaching team, it created room for conversation about some difficult questions we had to go through as a team.

What’s YOUR level of coaching mastery?

All coaches go through various stages of coaching mastery. Once you identify where you’re at, you can begin to build the skills needed to move to the next stage.

This quiz is based on real-life case studies compiled from years of working with coaches inside The Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program!

When you receive your results, you’ll also get your matching case study from the STRIVE Case Studies to see where you fit in the stages of coaching mastery.

Ready to tackle your challenges and move on to the next level in YOUR coaching practice?

The STRIVE Model of Coaching Mastery quiz will help you identify your level of coaching mastery by matching you with case studies compiled from years of working with coaches inside The Coach Certificate & Mentorship Program so you can easily see where you fit!

What would you do differently next time? What did you learn?

I felt like I could have structured my ideas better from the start to get a clearer goal of where to go. Although I loved this experience of guiding my ideas through the different offerings of the modules. It allowed me to get my thinking going and respond to what is happening at our school.

How did the Coach support you in your learning journey?

The course has an accommodating structure and a good pace, I never felt overwhelmed, it felt like it had time to read, discover, experiment, have conversations about the content and still was challenging in having to proof or demonstrate your learning journey.

How has your learning inside the Coach impacted your coaching practice & program in your school setting?

Great! Thanks to my learning journey, another colleague of mine could start this program and continue the journey. It created possibilities for open conversations with the team, in looking for improvement and alignment between different departments of our school. The feedback and support from Maggie and the support squad were always so helpful. I loved these meetings, as it was a moment to reflect and check in about how we are doing.

What next for your professional learning?

As a coach/head of department I hope to join a future training program about leadership/leadership skills development.

Thank you All! This has been a great learning experience.
